Making Inspiration Buildable: Lindsay Holick Brings Fresh Ideas into Balance.

Lindsay Holick has a natural instinct for what is coming next in kitchen design. As the third generation of her family to work at Wood Palace Kitchens, she brings a fresh point of view to a business grounded in decades of experience. She sees the ideas homeowners are saving, sharing and asking for, then takes on the challenge of turning that inspiration into cabinetry that can be beautifully and successfully built.

Her personality comes through in the way she designs… energetic and highly attentive to the details that make a room feel right. She enjoys the freedom of new construction, gravitates toward layered colors and natural wood, and will keep working a plan until the proportions feel balanced.

“I like everything to be balanced and even,” Lindsay says. “At the end of the day, your name is on it, and you want to be proud of what you designed.”

That combination of fresh inspiration and disciplined problem-solving is distinctly Lindsay. It is also why Wellborn Forest fits so naturally into her work.

A New Generation of Cabinetry Design

Lindsay joined her father, Michael Holick, in the family business in 2021. Today, she designs primarily for the company’s longstanding builder clients, ranging from builders completing a few homes each year to those constructing as many as 50. She may touch five to ten new kitchen plans in a week, while also managing the revisions that move active projects toward ordering and installation.

New construction is where she feels most creatively energized.

“With new construction, you get to set the stage,” Lindsay explains. “You can put the appliances where you want because the gas lines and electrical aren’t already there.”

As the self-described “new generation” in the family business, Lindsay sees social media reshaping client expectations. Homeowners arrive with Pinterest images and Facebook posts showing ideas from across the country, often before those looks have become common in their local market.

Some requests translate easily. Others require creativity before they can even be represented in design software. One client requested a built-in banquette with storage beneath a lift-up wood top and an angled back, although the software was designed largely around square, 90-degree components. Lindsay worked for hours with panels, moldings and modifications to communicate the idea in the rendering well enough to quote it.

“We may not be able to execute every inspiration image exactly as shown, but we will try our best to understand the idea and find a way to make it work,” Lindsay says.

That determination is central to Lindsay’s approach. She identifies what the homeowner loves about an inspiration image, then finds a credible way to capture its character within the dimensions, products and construction requirements of the home.

Designing with Balance, Warmth and Personality

Lindsay does not define herself by one prescribed design style. Instead, she begins with the room and searches for the arrangement that feels most resolved. Centered windows, even cabinetry around a range and thoughtfully proportioned features create the visual calm she wants to achieve.

“If the window isn’t centered or the stove doesn’t have even cabinets next to it, I try to come up with every single way I can to make it balanced,” she says.

Within that balanced framework, she enjoys introducing warmth and contrast. Homeowners are moving beyond one finish throughout the kitchen, pairing painted perimeters with stained islands, repeating wood tones on floating shelves or adding a wet bar in a complementary color. Quartersawn White Oak has become a particular favorite among her clients.

The most successful rooms, in Lindsay’s opinion, work on the inside and the outside. Microwave drawers, deeper furniture-style islands, tray dividers, cutlery inserts, spice storage and utensil pullouts make the kitchen easier to use. Multiple finishes, glass doors and architectural details give it personality.

Why Wellborn Forest Gives Lindsay More Room to Design

Approximately 75 percent of the builders served by Wood Palace Kitchens use Wellborn Forest, and Lindsay begins most of her designs in the line. Its breadth gives her confidence that she can develop the room she envisions without repeatedly stopping to redesign around missing sizes or limited specialty options.

“I feel like Wellborn Forest makes it easy to balance a design because they have so many cabinet sizes,” Lindsay explains. “Their specialty cabinets are offered in multiple sizes, so as a designer, you have a lot of room to move.”

Multiple transom sizes help her respond to different ceiling heights. Specialty cabinetry gives her more ways to incorporate organization while preserving symmetry. She also values access to Nova South for the occasional project that calls for full-access, frameless construction. It gives clients the clean look and added interior space they want without automatically pushing the project into a much more expensive fully custom line.

The Wellborn Forest Kitchen Lindsay Cannot Forget

When asked which Wellborn Forest project stands out most, Lindsay immediately recalled a custom kitchen completed where the room captured the warmth, contrast and architectural balance she enjoys creating.

Quartersawn White Oak cabinetry in the Ash finish established a warm, textured foundation across the perimeter. Transoms extended the cabinetry upward to complement the approximately 10-foot ceilings, giving the room presence and making full use of its height. A Caviar island introduced a deep, dramatic contrast at the center of the space.

“It was a Quartersawn White Oak kitchen in Ash, but we used Caviar accents,” Lindsay recalls. “The whole perimeter had transoms, and then we added the Caviar island.”

The glass cabinetry made the palette even more distinctive. Quartersawn White Oak cabinet boxes created a warm interior visible through the glass, while Caviar doors framed them in the darker accent color. The contrast allowed the grain of the white oak to remain part of the composition while tying the display cabinets back to the island. Matching cabinetry panels were also applied to the refrigerator and freezer.

The finished kitchen reflects what Lindsay values most: natural warmth, confident contrast, carefully considered details and a balanced design that feels complete from every angle.

A Wellborn Forest Partnership That Feels Like Family

Wellborn Forest’s product range gives Lindsay the flexibility to design, but the people behind the cabinetry are what have earned her loyalty. She describes a relationship built on responsiveness, follow-through and the confidence that someone will be there when she needs help.

If a specification is unclear or Lindsay has a question while designing, she emails her Wellborn Forest representative. She often receives an answer within an hour. When an order is submitted, customer service quickly confirms that it has been received and that the acknowledgment is underway. If a drawer or another component arrives from the shipping damaged, the team responds and takes care of it.

“Their communication is awesome,” Lindsay says. “If I have a question while I’m designing, I’ll email Sheila, and she’ll email me back within an hour.”

Lindsay also values that Wellborn Forest does not treat Wood Palace Kitchens as simply another account. When Lindsay’s father has advocated for additional colors or stains, the company has listened, with feedback from dealers helping inform additions such as the Southerly color collection.

“They value our opinion, which is really nice,” she says. “They respect what we have to say, and they listen to us.”

That willingness to listen makes the relationship personal. Lindsay feels that Wood Palace Kitchens has a voice with Wellborn Forest and that the people supporting her projects care about the outcome alongside her. The familiarity, trust and dependability feel closer to family than a conventional manufacturer relationship.

“It’s not just a business relationship. It’s almost like a friendship,” Lindsay says. “They’re super supportive, and anything we need, they honestly deliver.”

For Lindsay, that is the real Wellborn Forest difference. She has the choices to pursue a homeowner’s vision, the flexibility to bring the design into balance and a team she can rely on when questions or challenges arise. It is a partnership that helps her do her best work and gives both Wood Palace Kitchens and its clients confidence from the first idea through the finished room.
